Caravan Couple’s $2 Bunnings Hack to Tackle Camping Bugs

Christchurch: As more folks leave city life for adventures on the road, bugs can really be a pain. But Luke and Amanda, a caravan-loving couple, have come up with a super simple hack to keep those pests at bay. All it takes is a quick stop at Bunnings.
They’re building their own off-grid caravan from scratch, which is pretty impressive. Luke shared with Yahoo News Australia that sitting outside their caravan at night attracted loads of bugs to the bright white lights on their awning. Not cool!
So, Luke had a lightbulb moment. He grabbed some yellow electrical tape and lined the white LED strips with it. He said, “Changing the white to yellow with insulation electrical tape was a super easy solution.” And guess what? That roll of tape costs just $2.58 at Bunnings!
People were blown away by Luke’s hack. Many commented on how impressed they were, even calling him a “genius.” While some suggested using red lights instead, Luke explained that red lights are dim and not very useful in the dark. Yellow, on the other hand, works well because bugs can’t see it as easily.
After testing it out, Luke noticed a big difference in the number of bugs. He said he saw “hardly any” after using the tape, making it way nicer to sit outside during summer.
Luke and Amanda are currently on a five-week trip around New Zealand’s South Island, documenting their caravan-building journey on their YouTube channel. They’re still figuring things out as they go, and this trip is a great way to test everything.
