Car Crashes into Mumbles Big Apple Landmark, Causing Significant Damage

Mumbles: A car smashed into the Big Apple, a well-known landmark, causing quite a bit of damage. The incident happened on January 7, and it left the structure with a significant dent on its lower right side.
The driver was cruising down Mumbles Road when he hit some ice and lost control. Unfortunately, he swerved right into the iconic kiosk, damaging the area around its door.
This Big Apple has been a part of Mumbles since the 1930s, originally built to promote a cider brand. It even got listed building status in 2019, which shows how important it is to the community.
It’s not the first time this landmark has faced trouble. Back in 2009, a Ford Fiesta crashed into it, but thanks to a big community effort, it was rebuilt. Just last year, it got a fresh coat of paint and was restored to its former glory.
Now, the folks at Mumbles Pier are once again looking at repairs. Bert Bollom, who manages the pier with his brother, expressed his sadness over the incident. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but they’re anxious to see how bad the damage really is.
He mentioned that they had recently put up bollards to prevent accidents like this, but it’s tough with the building being so close to the road. The Big Apple is a beloved part of Mumbles, and they’re determined to restore it.
Bert also noted that the structure is unique and tricky to work on. The structural engineer is set to visit soon to assess the damage, and they’re all a bit worried about what they might find inside.
As for the driver, he was reportedly very upset about the accident. It seems it was just a freak incident, not reckless driving. The police confirmed that no injuries occurred, and the driver received a verbal warning.
