Bedfordshire: The family of Captain Sir Tom Moore has decided to drop the price of their mansion by £250,000. They’re also trying to distance themselves from his legacy in the listing.

Originally, the seven-bedroom home was listed for a whopping £2.25 million. Now, it’s back on the market for just over £2 million, but without any mention of Captain Tom or his charitable work.

The new listing simply states that the vendors have owned the property for 18 years and have made significant improvements. It’s a big change from before when his name and story were front and center.

Captain Tom became famous during the pandemic for raising £39 million for charity by walking in his garden. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth and sadly passed away in 2021.

However, his family faced backlash after it was revealed they benefited financially from a charity set up in his name. This led to the property being taken off the market for a while.

Now, the listing shows no signs of the lockdown hero. Before, there were photos of him being knighted and other memorabilia, but that’s all gone.

The Charity Commission found issues with how the Captain Tom Foundation was run, saying there were repeated failures in governance. They also noted that the family didn’t use the proceeds from his autobiography to benefit the charity.

In 2023, his daughter admitted to keeping the book profits for themselves, claiming there was no agreement with her father about donating the money. The commission also pointed out that they misused the foundation’s name for personal gain.

Now, the Ingram-Moores can’t act as charity trustees anymore. They feel they’ve been treated unfairly and say the inquiry has taken a toll on their family’s well-being.
