Toronto: After years of trying out, The Virgo Queen has finally snagged the crown on Season 5 of Canada’s Drag Race. She wowed everyone by winning three challenges and took the title after an epic lip sync battle to Shania Twain’s “From This Moment.”
In the final episode, when the top four were asked about their biggest competition, Virgo was the one everyone pointed to. She admitted it added some pressure to perform her best.
“It definitely put some pressure on me to show up and perform well,” she shared with Yahoo Canada. “It also kind of put a target on my back.”
But she was ready for the challenge. The final task involved writing, recording, and performing their debut singles, with help from guest judge Orville Peck.
Virgo has been in the music scene for a while, having been a finalist on The Next Star when she was just 14. She really pushed herself for this final competition.
“I did not rest that week,” she said. “We rehearsed all the way into the night.”
Throughout the season, the support among the contestants was heartwarming, which surprised Virgo. She didn’t expect that level of camaraderie.
“I don’t think that’s something we’re used to seeing on the show or in drag communities,” she noted. “It was a very pleasant surprise how quickly we all became super nice to each other.”
One touching moment was when she connected with Jaylene Tyme, a Two-Spirit, Indigenous drag artist. Virgo wanted to embrace her biracial, half-Indigenous identity.
“It was an out-of-body experience,” she recalled. “I felt the vibrations of everyone’s energy in the room.”
She felt safe and supported, thanks to the cast and crew, which allowed everyone to be vulnerable. This experience has not only impacted her but also the Drag Race fandom.
“It’s opened up a new window to what Drag Race can really represent,” she said. “This season really showed that.”
Virgo, the winner of Canada’s Drag Race Season 5, is excited about her future.
She knows that a lot of hard work goes into preparing for the competition. “I’m a Virgo, and we’re quite controlling and specific about what we like,” she explained. “It was really stressful.”
She had to think outside the box to get the best results with limited resources. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of so many people in my career,” she added.
Looking ahead, Virgo is open to new opportunities, but music remains her main focus. “Drag has given me so much confidence,” she said. “I want to create music that really touches people, whether it’s drag-related or not.”
