Montreal: So, Uma Gahd had a tough time on the latest episode of Canada’s Drag Race. You know how the Snatch Game usually gets everyone hyped? Well, this time, it didn’t quite hit the mark. The judges, especially Brooke Lynn Hytes, were not impressed. Uma and her fellow queen, Makayla Couture, ended up in the bottom, and sadly, Uma had to pack her bags.
Looking back, Uma feels like the judges were a bit harsh. She thinks they were fighting an uphill battle. “Brooke was really disappointed in the Reading challenge, and I think that vibe carried over into the Snatch Game,” she explained. But Uma believes they actually brought some good laughs to the table.
She mentioned how much she loved the performances from her fellow contestants, like Helena, Perla, and Minhi. “They were so funny and never broke character. I just wanted to celebrate them,” she said. Even in the Untucked segment, she was all about giving them the love they deserved.
As she said goodbye to her castmates, Uma reflected on the friendships she made during the show. After ten years in drag, she’s seen a lot of competition, but this time felt different. “Everyone was genuinely excited to see me every morning, and that was a big deal for me,” she shared.
Uma also talked about how she tried to bring her unique style to the show. “I’ve watched a lot of Drag Race, and judging can be so unpredictable,” she noted. But she was proud to showcase her art, even if it didn’t resonate with everyone.
For those who can’t get enough of Uma, she’s bringing her one-woman play, “Are You There, Margaret? It’s Me, Gahd,” back to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She’s also exploring more theater opportunities, so stay tuned!
