Penrith: A Canada-based author is dedicating his new crime novel to the lovely folks of Cumbria. Jonathan Whitelaw, originally from Glasgow but now living in Alberta, is set to release ‘The Garden Club Murders’ on February 13.

This book is the fourth in his ‘Bingo Hall Detectives’ series, which is all about Cumbria. Jonathan’s love for the area comes from family trips to the Lake District. It’s a special place for him.

His latest story follows three previous books, including ‘The Bingo Hall Detectives,’ which won him the Gilpin Hotel Prize for Fiction in 2023. He’s really excited about this new chapter.

Jonathan shared that writing these books is a thrill. It brings him back to Penrith and the Lakes, no matter where he is. He mentioned that this book is one of his proudest achievements.

He’s not just writing about Cumbria; he’s also been active in the community. He spoke about his books in Carlisle and even supported a fundraiser for Penrith AFC.

Now, he’s thrilled to dedicate this novel to the wonderful county he adores. He feels it’s a small way to show his appreciation for the warmth and support he receives from the people there.

For Jonathan, Cumbria feels like home, and he’s grateful for the friendships he’s made over the years. Dedicating this book is a heartfelt gesture to the community that means so much to him.
