Cambridgeshire: So, there was this bus driver who really stepped up recently. He intervened to keep a young girl safe from some shady characters. This all happened after the bus company, Stagecoach East, joined this anti-abuse initiative. They’re making their buses a safe haven for anyone feeling threatened.
The police and a local rape crisis center are also involved in this program. They’re training drivers to spot vulnerable people, whether they’re on the bus or waiting at a stop. It’s pretty cool because drivers can actually pull over and check in on women or girls who look like they might need help.
One driver even had to directly confront some guys who were bothering a young girl. Thankfully, one of them got arrested! The managing director of Stagecoach, Darren Roe, mentioned that they’ve had several instances where drivers have stepped in to protect women. It’s great to see that their efforts are making a difference.
He emphasized that the message is clear: buses are safe spaces. If anyone feels threatened, they should definitely let the driver know. Plus, all the buses are equipped with cameras, so any incidents can be recorded and dealt with properly.
