Peterborough: A burglar was caught in the act by his victim. Andrew Jenkins, 44, broke into a flat on Vineyard Road around 3:15 AM on October 13. Cambridgeshire Police reported the incident.

The victim woke up and confronted Jenkins. He claimed he was looking for a friend. The victim stopped him and found stolen items in Jenkins’ jacket. These included an old phone, a wallet with foreign cash, and keys to a Mercedes.

Jenkins tried to escape but left a vape behind. Police recovered DNA from it. They also found CCTV footage of him trying to break into another flat. He was seen getting into a Mini Cooper and taking a shopping bag from the boot.

Jenkins, from St Paul’s Road in Dogsthorpe, was sentenced to two years and three months in jail. He pleaded guilty to burglary, attempted burglary, theft, and vehicle interference.

He received no separate penalty for the theft and vehicle interference. PC Luke Blakey from the Acquisitive Crime Team said Jenkins has a history of burglary. He’s glad Jenkins is back in jail, as burglary is a priority for the police.
