Camano Island: A family is heartbroken after losing their son, Robert Rathvon, in a tragic accident. They’re reaching out to the community for help in finding the driver who hit him.
The accident took place in Poulsbo during the night of December 8-9, 2023. Robert, 35, had just finished a long work week as a Life Flight pilot and decided to stay at a local hotel.
After grabbing dinner at a nearby restaurant, he left before midnight. Not familiar with the area, he accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up on the Finn Hill exit ramp.
Surveillance footage shows him near Viking Way and Finn Hill shortly after midnight. Sadly, he was struck by a vehicle, and his body was discovered hours later.
Now, his family, along with law enforcement, is asking for anyone with information to come forward. Crime Stoppers is even offering a $26,000 reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
Jim Fuda, the director of Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound, emphasized the importance of keeping this case in the public eye, as memories can fade over time.
Robert was dedicated to helping others, flying in some of the most dangerous situations. His mother, Kathryn, expressed the painful irony of his death as a pedestrian.
As the anniversary of his death approaches, Kathryn shared that they have found it in their hearts to forgive the driver but still seek closure and justice.
William Rathvon, Robert’s father, reflected on the past year filled with questions and a deep search for understanding and healing.
They hope someone out there knows something that could help them find answers. If you have any information, please reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and remain anonymous.
