Calls for Safety Review at Shore Recycling Centre Following Fire Incident

A serious fire at Shore Recycling in Perth has sparked calls for a safety review amid growing concerns over repeated incidents at the site

Perth: There’s been quite a stir after a fire broke out at the Shore Recycling centre. This isn’t the first time, either. It’s the fourth fire there since 2021, and it’s got people worried.

The latest incident happened early Tuesday morning and caused a real mess, closing the M90 and creating traffic chaos. Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser is calling for a safety review of the facility, especially since a worker tragically lost their life in a fire there last year.

First Minister John Swinney is also sounding the alarm, saying we need stricter safety measures. Emergency services were on the scene for hours, and the bridge was shut down for about 10 hours, which really backed up traffic in the city.

Fraser pointed out that it’s time to take a hard look at safety at the recycling centre. He’s concerned about the fire risks and whether it’s smart to have a facility like this so close to a major road.

Swinney echoed those concerns, stressing that we need to prioritize safety for both workers and the public. The recycling plant has changed hands a couple of times, and it seems like the issues just keep piling up.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service responded quickly, but thankfully, there were no casualties this time. They had a good number of fire appliances on the scene, and they’re keeping an eye on things even after the fire was put out. It’s definitely a situation that needs addressing.
