Newport: Nature lovers are getting excited for a birdwatching event at Newport Wetlands. It’s called “What’s That Bird?” and it’s happening on Saturday, January 25, from 11 am to 1 pm.

An expert will lead the group, helping everyone learn to identify different bird calls. You’ll get to hear from small warblers to migratory birds like Redwing and Fieldfare.

If you’re a member of the RSPB, tickets are £6.60. Non-members will pay £8. It’s a great way to get ready for the Big Garden Birdwatch coming up from January 24 to 26.

Last year, over 600,000 folks in the UK joined in, counting a staggering 9.7 million birds! This survey helps keep track of bird populations, which are facing some tough times.

With so many challenges for our feathered friends, it’s super important to get involved in the Big Garden Birdwatch. Newport Wetlands is a perfect spot to learn about bird feeding and attracting wildlife.

The RSPB has more birdwatching events lined up in Wales too. There’s a “Birdwatching for Beginners” event at South Stack on January 18, a Big Garden Birdwatch Quiz Trail at RSPB Conwy, and another birdwatching event at RSPB Ynys-hir.

For more details, check out rspb.org.uk/days-out/reserves/ynys-hir. Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher or just starting out, these events are a fantastic way to connect with nature and learn about our avian pals.
