Los Angeles: The wildfires in Southern California are really out of control right now. Firefighters are getting a little break with lighter winds, but it’s not going to last long. By Thursday afternoon, those winds are expected to pick up again, which could make things worse.

Sadly, these fires have already claimed at least five lives and destroyed hundreds of buildings. Around 100,000 people have been told to evacuate, including some celebrities who live in the area. The Pacific Palisades fire alone has burned nearly 7,000 hectares, and it’s still growing.

On Wednesday, a red flag warning was lifted in most areas, but some spots still have that alert. This means there’s a high risk for rapid fire spread and extreme behavior. It’s a tense situation.

While the winds have calmed down a bit, there’s no rain in the forecast for the next two weeks. That’s not good news for firefighters trying to get a handle on these blazes.

As of now, the Palisades fire has burned about 17,000 acres, which is a huge area. Other fires, like the Eaton blaze and Hurst fire, are also causing trouble, with no containment in sight.

To help out, two water bombers from Quebec are in California, along with crews from B.C. to assist with the firefighting efforts. It’s a tough battle, and as of Wednesday, around 300,000 people were without power in Southern California.
