Santa Cruz: So, there was this crazy incident on Monday when a part of the wharf just gave way, and three people ended up in the ocean. Can you believe it?

It happened around 12:45 p.m. PT, and thankfully, everyone had just minor injuries. Two folks were pulled from the water, while the third managed to swim back to safety on their own.

Apparently, the collapse was due to some heavy surf hitting the area. The Santa Cruz Fire Chief mentioned that they were dealing with some serious storm swells at the time.

They evacuated the parts of the wharf that were still safe, but it’s wild to think that about 150 feet of the pier was already closed off because of damage from earlier storms.

One of the people who fell was actually a project manager working on the wharf, along with two contractors. They all ended up in the hospital, but luckily, their injuries were minor.

Oh, and the National Weather Service was warning everyone about the dangerous conditions, saying there were life-threatening waves and rip currents along the coast. Just goes to show how unpredictable the ocean can be!

This whole thing was reported on NBC News, and it’s just a reminder to be careful out there, especially when the weather gets rough.
