The California Lottery announced that the lucky ticket was purchased at a Circle K in Cottonwood. It was the only ticket in the whole country to match all six numbers drawn. Those numbers were 3, 7, 37, 49, 55, and the Mega Ball was 6.
This win is pretty special since it’s the first Mega Millions jackpot winner since Texas snagged an $810 million prize back in September. Plus, it’s the third winning ticket of the year!
If you’re wondering about the payout, the lump sum for this jackpot is around $549.7 million. That’s a lot of cash! The winner can also opt for the full $1.22 billion paid out over 30 years if they prefer.
Oh, and there were two other tickets that came close. One was sold in Roseville and the other in San Bernardino, both in California. They matched five out of the six numbers and each won about $787,543. Not too shabby, right?
