Indianapolis: Caitlin Clark, a rising star in US sports, is facing a tough situation. A 55-year-old man named Michael Lewis has been arrested for stalking her. He allegedly sent her some really scary messages.
Lewis, from Denton, Texas, was caught at a hotel in Indianapolis, where Clark plays for the Indiana Fever. He’s got a court date coming up, and if he’s found guilty, he could be looking at six years behind bars.
It all started when police got wind of Lewis’s messages last week. He reportedly said he was driving by her house multiple times a day and warned her not to call the cops. Some of his messages were pretty violent, which is just awful.
Clark told the police that these messages made her feel unsafe, so she even changed how she looks when she goes out. When the cops found Lewis, he claimed he was on vacation and had an “imaginary relationship” with her. Seriously?
Even after being warned, he kept messaging her. Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears highlighted how brave it is for women to come forward in these situations, as many don’t. Clark is setting an example for others, showing that everyone deserves to feel safe.
At just 22, Clark was the top pick in last year’s WNBA draft after an amazing college career at Iowa. She’s made a name for herself with her skills and her rivalry with Angel Reese. In her rookie season, she was named rookie of the year, broke records, and even landed a huge sponsorship deal with Nike.
