Melbourne: So, it looks like Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is gearing up for a cabinet reshuffle. This comes right after Bill Shorten announced he’s leaving politics sooner than expected.

Shorten, who’s been the NDIS Minister, is set to take on a new role as vice-chancellor at the University of Canberra starting in February. He’ll be stepping down on Monday, which is a bit earlier than everyone thought.

Reports say Albanese might appoint Katy Gallagher to handle Centrelink duties. Meanwhile, Amanda Rishworth is likely to take over the NDIS, and Anne Aly could become the junior disability minister. Sounds like a busy time ahead!

With the federal election coming up by May 17, this reshuffle gives Albanese a chance to make some strategic changes. Shorten mentioned that it’s really up to the PM to choose the right person for the job.

He’s been in the Maribyrnong seat since 2007 and stepped down as Labor leader in 2019 after losing to Scott Morrison. Shorten decided last September that he wouldn’t run again, but he wants to make sure NDIS reforms are in place before he leaves.

On the bright side, Jo Briskey from Queensland has been picked as the Labor candidate to run for Shorten’s seat. It’s all happening in Melbourne!
