LANGLEY, B.C.: Today, voters in Cloverdale—Langley City are heading to the polls to choose a new MP. This byelection is a big deal for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Liberal candidate, Madison Fleischer, is a local business owner. She’s up against Conservative Tamara Jansen, who used to hold this seat.

This byelection follows a couple of tough losses for the Liberals in recent months. It’s been a rough ride, and there are whispers about Trudeau needing to step down.

Cloverdale—Langley City has been a bit of a battleground between the Liberals and Conservatives. Jansen took the seat from Liberal John Aldag in 2019, but Aldag bounced back in 2021.

Aldag decided to leave this year to run for the NDP in a provincial election but ended up losing to a Conservative. It’s been a tough time for the Liberals in this area.

Interestingly, all three provincial ridings in Langley went to the B.C. Conservatives, who aren’t officially linked to the federal Conservatives. It’s a complicated political landscape!
