Rossendale: It was a hectic week for the rescue teams. They were called out to help transfer a dialysis patient who was snowed in. The volunteers really stepped up.
On Wednesday, the Rossendale and Pendle Rescue Teams teamed up with the ambulance service. They had trouble getting to the patient’s home near Bacup because of the snow.
A spokesperson mentioned they brought along their Hilux and a tracked buggy. They knew from past experiences that access could be tricky.
When they arrived, they used the tracked buggy to reach the house, pick up the patient, and safely bring them to the waiting ambulance on the main road.
This was just one of eight calls the rescue teams handled over the weekend. They were busy!
Then, early Thursday, Lancashire Police reached out for help with another incident. A vehicle had gone off the road near Briercliffe, Burnley.
But before the teams could head out, they learned the fire service had already managed the situation, so they didn’t need to respond.
Also, there’s a warning for walkers on Pendle Hill. They should avoid ‘false edges’ created by the heavy snow earlier this week.
A spokesperson from the rescue team said a former member spotted a big cornice on the hill. These snow ledges can be dangerous because they might collapse without warning.
They advised everyone to be cautious. Enjoy the views, but prioritize safety and avoid taking unnecessary risks.
