Newport: A busy road in Newport is closed after a water main burst, flooding the area. The A4042 Kingsway is shut in both directions, and traffic is backed up.

The closure stretches from Harlequin Roundabout to Friars Walk. This all kicked off shortly after 10 am today, and Welsh Water is already on the scene trying to sort things out.

Gwent Police shared a message on social media saying, “The A4042 is currently closed between The Harlequin Roundabout and Kingsway Road turning to Friars Walk. Diversions are in place which may cause congestion. Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes for your journey. Thank you.”

Newport Bus is also warning folks about disruptions due to the closure. They posted on X, saying, “There will be some disruptions on some services as Kingsway Road (The Road under the Old Green Roundabout) is closed in both directions due to a burst water main.”

Google Maps shows heavy traffic from Harlequin Roundabout all the way to Usk Way. WalesOnline has reached out to Welsh Water for more info. Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp news community for the latest updates!
