Bury Roads Closed After Heavy Rainfall with One Closure Still Active

Bury: So, it was a wild New Year’s Eve in Greater Manchester! Heavy rain hit hard, leading to road closures, including in Bury. Can you believe one closure is still hanging around?
On New Year’s Day, the police even declared a “major incident” because places like Bolton and Stockport were really affected. It was no joke!
In Bury, they had to shut down Manchester Road and Bury New Road because of the downpour. And guess what? Today, Pilsworth Road is still closed at the Moss Hall Road junction due to flooding. Crazy, right?
Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom is also dealing with some serious flooding. A spokesperson from the council mentioned that their team was out and about on New Year’s Eve and Day, tackling the flooding issues.
They’re keeping an eye on things and will be back to fix any lingering problems. River levels were checked regularly, and they’re working closely with the Environment Agency.
Across Greater Manchester, Mayor Andy Burnham said about 1,000 folks had to evacuate their homes. He’s calling for some accountability, admitting they were caught off guard by the severity of the situation.
