Hornsea: So, there was this sneaky burglar who thought he could get away with breaking into a remote house. He even cut the power to the place, thinking it would help him avoid being caught. But, surprise surprise, it didn’t work out for him.
The homeowner was away and usually checked his CCTV from his phone. But when he tried to log in, he couldn’t see anything. He thought maybe there was a power cut or some tech issue. When he got back home, he found the front door wide open and a smashed window. Not a good sign!
Inside, he noticed muddy footprints and realized that a mug with £600 cash was missing, along with an air rifle and a computer hard drive. Ouch! The damage to the window alone cost him £120 to fix.
Turns out, the burglar, Jonathan Coursh, was caught later on December 14. He didn’t say much to the police, but he had a pretty long record of 49 previous offenses. Not exactly a rookie move!
His lawyer said he wasn’t in the right frame of mind because of some medication he was on. He claimed he was just having a rough time and acted on impulse. He even mentioned he was trying to turn his life around while in custody.
But the judge wasn’t buying it. He pointed out that Coursh lived nearby and that his story about just deciding to break in on a whim didn’t add up. The judge said this kind of crime is serious and that Coursh deserved to be locked up for a while.
In the end, Coursh got an 18-month sentence. Hopefully, he’ll use this time to really think about his choices.
