Perth: So, there’s this photo going around of a “rare” plant at Bunnings, and it’s got everyone talking. The plant, a Thai constellation monstera, was locked up in a cage, and folks are scratching their heads over it.
The pic popped up on social media, showing these cool-looking plants in a metal cage on wheels. There was even a sign saying to call staff if you wanted a closer look. People were like, “What’s the big deal?”
Experts say the Thai constellation monstera is pretty special because of its unique leaves. Jarryd Kelly from the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney mentioned that while the regular monstera is common, this one’s variegation makes it rare. Plant lovers are eager to snag one because of its beauty.
But here’s the kicker: it’s not the easiest plant to grow, which makes it less available. Still, Kelly pointed out that it’s become more commercialized, so you can find it at lower prices now. But, depending on where you look, it can still cost you a pretty penny—like $200 on eBay!
People on social media had mixed feelings about the whole thing. One person joked about the cage being on wheels, saying it’s just a plant in a cage. Others questioned how it could be rare if it’s at Bunnings.
A Bunnings spokesperson explained that the photo was taken in WA after some of these plants went missing. To keep them safe, they decided to keep them all together in the cage. They’re back in their usual spots now, so no more wandering off!
