Bronx: A 28-year-old mom, Delfina Galvez, turned herself in after leaving her baby girl in a tote bag outside a neighbor’s house. It all happened early Sunday morning.

She wrapped her newborn in blankets and left her on the street. A neighbor heard the baby crying and called the cops around 6 a.m. Thankfully, the baby was found safe.

The little girl, just about five days old, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center and is doing okay. The police had been searching for Galvez and even released surveillance footage to help find her.

It turns out she lived just a short walk from where she left her baby. Now, she’s facing some serious charges, including child abandonment and reckless endangerment.

New York has laws that allow parents to safely abandon a baby, but it has to be done in a safe place like a hospital. Galvez’s arraignment is coming up soon.
