Bromsgrove: On July 30, 2024, police got over 20 calls. A vehicle was driving the wrong way on the M5 towards stopped traffic.

Police Constable Kully Singh and Constable Stacey Hegenbarth quickly decided to act. They intercepted the car with their own vehicle to prevent a crash.

Both officers suffered injuries like whiplash and bruising. However, police said they “without a doubt saved many innocent lives.”

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police praised their bravery. They noted that stepping in front of a speeding car is a serious decision.

PC Singh and PC Hegenbarth received commendations for their actions at the Quality Policing Awards. This event celebrates police officers and staff who go above and beyond.

The awards night took place on January 31, honoring over 46 nominees for their exceptional service. The officers received the Bravery Award from the Police Federation.

Temporary Chief Constable Richard Cooper expressed pride in the officers’ dedication. He highlighted their commitment to keeping communities safe.

He also thanked sponsors for supporting the event, allowing recognition of those who serve with dedication.
