Bristol: The Bristol Light Festival is back, and it’s set to dazzle the city with ten amazing installations. Mark your calendars for January 31 to February 9, when the festival lights up the winter nights.
This year, the festival will feature some fantastic locations like Harbourside, Broadmead, College Green, and St Mary Redcliffe Gardens. One of the highlights is the drum and bass-themed installation called Anthems: Volume One, which just got announced!
Anthems: Volume One combines stunning laser animations with a top-notch sound system. It’s all about creating a unique experience that celebrates Bristol’s vibrant music scene. You’ll find it in an empty shop near Cabot Circus, and it’s designed to be fun and accessible for everyone.
The artist behind this installation, Marcus Lyall, is known for his large-scale light works. He’s worked with big names like Metallica and The Rolling Stones. He mentioned how important Bristol is to the drum and bass genre and how the music will be played at a comfortable volume for everyone to enjoy.
Vivienne Kennedy, the Director of Broadmead BID, shared her excitement about the festival, saying it transforms the city and makes Broadmead look spectacular. She hopes it encourages people to explore Bristol and its amazing venues.

One of the standout installations will be Ramandu’s Table by Bruce Munro Studio at College Green, featuring a flock of colorful flamingos. It’s sure to be a whimsical sight!
Another cool installation is Somnius by Illumaphonium at Lloyds Amphitheatre. It’s all about creating a playful environment where the audience can interact with the light and sound.
As you stroll across Castle Bridge, you’ll see C-Scales, which reflects shimmering light inspired by Sydney Harbour. And don’t miss Swing Song at Queen Square, which is back due to popular demand!
There’s also Our Beating Heart by Studio Vertigo at St Stephens Church Gardens, a giant disco ball that symbolizes love and togetherness.
At Broadmead, Tetra invites visitors to engage with its tactile design, while Parallels at Temple Church will immerse you in a world of lasers and mirrors.
St Mary Redcliffe Gardens will host the world premiere of The Whilers, where you can interact with otherworldly creatures in a magical experience.
And of course, Anthems: Volume One will bring the history of drum and bass to life at Quakers Friars, celebrating the city’s deep connection to the genre.
There are also some fun fringe events planned, like talks, workshops, and even a Neon Kids Rave! Plus, the festival hub at Queen Square will be the perfect spot to grab some merch and enjoy the atmosphere.
