Bracknell: February is here, bringing a chance for reflection and action. This week, the council participates in Race Equality Week. It’s a national campaign aimed at tackling racial inequality in workplaces and beyond.

Bracknell is a diverse and welcoming borough. We want everyone to thrive, no matter their background. Being anti-racist means taking action. We need to identify barriers to equality and create a culture where everyone feels valued.

Racism shows up in many ways. It can be discrimination in hiring or everyday biases that hold people back. We can’t just avoid being racist; we must actively fight against it. Every small action counts in making a difference.

The council is committed to this approach. I urge local businesses, schools, and organizations to join us. Together, we can make Bracknell Forest a fair and opportunity-filled place for all.

While we work on inclusivity, we also need to manage our finances. Like other councils, we face financial challenges. Rising costs and increased demand for services mean we must be careful with our resources.

Each year, we propose a budget that balances essential services with financial realities. Our revenue budget covers daily services like waste collection and social care. The capital budget is for long-term projects like roads and infrastructure.

Our budget consultation just closed. Thanks to everyone who participated online and in person. It was great to hear your thoughts. We’ll review all responses and include them in a report for the council’s cabinet on February 11. The cabinet will recommend a budget package to the Full Council on February 26.

Whether addressing racial inequality or managing finances, we must work together. Real progress comes from listening, learning, and taking action.

Have a good week, everyone.
