Colchester: A young boy died when a large mirror fell on him in a department store. The incident happened while he was looking at his reflection.
Freddie Farrow was just five years old. He touched the mirror gently when it toppled over at the Fenwick store. The mirror weighed around 80kg and caused a severe brain injury.
Detective Chief Inspector Michael Pannell investigated the scene. He found broken glass and a lot of blood on the floor. The mirror had a metal bracket on the wall and another on the mirror itself.
DCI Pannell explained that a wooden part of the bracket broke, leaving the mirror leaning against the wall. CCTV footage showed Freddie entering the lingerie department with his mom and her friend.
As he touched the mirror, it suddenly moved forward and hit him on the head. He fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away two days later.
Freddie’s mom, Natasha, remembered him as “cheeky and funny and clever.” His dad, Andrew, said it feels like part of their world is missing now. The inquest into the incident is ongoing.
