Mumbai: So, the BMC has been busy lately. They just knocked down some extended shops in Ghatkopar and a couple of buildings in Goregaon. This all started after a tragic incident where a woman lost her life when a tempo lost control and hit pedestrians on a crowded road in Chirag Nagar.

The BMC took action on Monday, clearing out those encroachments on the narrow road where the accident happened. It’s a pretty busy spot, and the road was cluttered with hawkers and shop extensions, making it tough for people to walk safely.

In Goregaon, they didn’t hold back either. They demolished 14 structures, including an old two-storey building on S V Road. These buildings were causing a bottleneck on a road that’s already pretty hectic.

The BMC is promising to help the shopkeepers affected by this. They’ll get some compensation and alternative spots to set up their businesses. The goal is to finish the road improvements by May, which should really help with the traffic flow.
