Townsville: A legally blind man named Richard Willshire stepped up when a fire broke out at his neighbor’s home. He grabbed his garden hose and did his best to fight the flames.
The fire was intense, and Richard was right there, spraying water as emergency services rushed to the scene. It took firefighters about three hours to get everything under control.
Richard described the chaos, saying, “all hell broke loose” as the fire spread quickly. He was worried about the fence catching fire, and he could feel the heat all around him.
He mentioned how windows were exploding and debris was flying everywhere. The family living in the house—a mother and her ten kids—lost everything in the blaze.
The fire was deemed an accident, and the local fire authorities are looking into it. Meanwhile, the mother’s niece has started a community collection to help the family get back on their feet.
She shared online that her aunt and cousins are now homeless and have lost all their belongings, including clothes, food, and family photos. They really need help with essentials like diapers, clothes for the kids, and blankets.
Since the donation drive began, the niece says her aunt has been sending messages of thanks to everyone who’s helping out. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together in such tough times.
