Blackpool: So, there’s this working men’s club in Blackpool that’s been getting some heat. Planners just gave the green light for some upgrades, but locals are not too happy about it. They’re worried that the “awful karaoke” will get even louder with more people coming in.

The club, located on Stanley Road, is set to get a new entrance and a little outdoor seating area. The town hall thinks this will help the club serve the community better. They believe social clubs are important for bringing people together and making neighborhoods stronger.

But not everyone is on board. Two residents from nearby Livingston Road are concerned that the changes will just bring more noise. They’ve complained about how loud the karaoke gets, especially when the doors are open in the summer. It’s tough for them to enjoy their gardens or get a good night’s sleep.

They also mentioned the noise from glass bottles being thrown into bins late at night. The council said those issues are more about licensing than planning, so they can’t really do much about it. The planning report noted that since the club has been around for a while, they can’t restrict its use just because of a few complaints.

In the end, the club will get a new entrance with a fancy canopy and some other updates, but it looks like the karaoke will keep going strong.
