Blackpool: The famous chandeliers in the Blackpool Tower ballroom are getting some much-needed TLC. Workers have carefully taken them down for their annual spring clean.
These stunning chandeliers weigh over half a tonne each! They were lowered onto special scaffold towers to keep those beautiful hand-cut crystals safe. You might recognize them from Strictly Come Dancing, as they really add to the ballroom’s charm.
But here’s the big news: for the first time in more than 50 years, the rope mechanism that lifts these beauties is being replaced. Steve Hughes, who’s in charge of the project, mentioned it’s all about preserving these treasures for future generations.
This cleaning ritual happens every January, but this year is extra special. Steve said, “What we have here in Blackpool is unique. We want to keep our history alive for everyone to enjoy.”
Along with the two big chandeliers, they’re also giving a deep clean to 12 smaller ones. Aaron Edgar, the operations manager, expressed pride in the ballroom and emphasized the importance of providing a fantastic experience for all visitors.
He added, “This is a carefully planned operation, and we can’t wait to see the chandeliers shining down on everyone again.”
So, if you’re in Blackpool, keep an eye out for these stunning lights when they’re back up in all their glory!
