Birmingham: So, there’s this surgeon named Mohammad Siddiqui who just got sentenced for some pretty serious stuff. He pleaded guilty to 25 offences, including harming kids and doing things he shouldn’t have been doing.
This guy was working at a hospital but decided to start a mobile circumcision service back in 2012. Can you believe that? He was doing this for vulnerable kids right in their homes, even after he got kicked out of the medical register in 2015.
The Crown Prosecution Service said most of his crimes happened in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, but he also did some work in Thames Valley and the West Midlands. It’s wild how he just kept going despite being banned.
They described his methods as unsafe and unsanitary, which is just awful. He was promoting his services all over the UK, performing these procedures on kids up to 14 years old. It’s shocking!
After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to 67 months in prison, which is over five and a half years. Plus, he’s got a serious organized crime prevention order against him, so he can’t do this again when he gets out.
Anja Hohmeyer from the CPS said Siddiqui left kids with emotional and physical scars. She hopes this conviction brings some comfort to the families affected. It’s a tough situation, but at least justice is being served.
Detective Chief Superintendent Fiona Bitters mentioned that this was a complex investigation aimed at protecting children. She expressed hope that this significant sentence will help the victims and their families find some peace after all this time.
It’s a pretty unusual case, and it raises a lot of questions about non-therapeutic circumcision. Let’s hope this helps prevent any more kids from being harmed in the future.
