Birmingham: A resident is seriously considering moving from her charming village, Hampton-in-Arden, after Birmingham Airport got the green light for more night flights. This village, known for its picturesque views and rich history, is now facing the threat of increased noise.

Homes here are pretty pricey, averaging around £460,000, and folks are not happy about the idea of more planes flying overhead at night. Just last week, Solihull Council approved a plan that will bump up the number of flights during the night, from 5% to 7.3%. That means about 21 flights could be buzzing around while most people are trying to sleep.

One resident shared her frustration, saying, “Hampton is such a lovely place to live. But if it gets too noisy, I might have to pack up and leave.” She mentioned that she could hear planes even while watching TV, and it’s really starting to get on her nerves.

Another local, who’s been living there for over a decade, echoed her concerns. He said, “There’s a loud plane that wakes me up at 6:30 AM. I’m not looking forward to even more flights.” It’s clear that many are worried about their peaceful village life being disrupted.

However, not everyone feels the same way. Some residents have gotten used to the noise and don’t mind it as much. One person said, “I don’t hear it at night; you just sleep through it.” But others are still concerned about the impact of more flights, especially during the early hours.

The airport argues that these changes are necessary for its growth after the pandemic, but many locals feel their voices aren’t being heard. With the planning committee voting in favor of the new flight schedule, it seems like the village will have to adapt to this new reality.
