Stoke-on-Trent: Families in North Staffordshire are feeling the pinch as bin collections have been delayed. The recent snow and ice have really thrown a wrench in the works for local councils.
Residents have been told to leave their full bins out, but it’s frustrating not knowing when they’ll be collected. The councils haven’t been able to give exact dates, which adds to the uncertainty.
Last week’s heavy snowfall made many side roads nearly impossible to navigate. This led to road closures and even school shutdowns, making things a bit chaotic.
Now, everyone’s just waiting to see when their bins will finally be emptied. Here’s what the councils are saying:
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has posted on their website about the delays. They’re asking folks not to log duplicate requests for bin collections, as they’re already swamped. They’re working hard to get back on track, so they appreciate everyone’s patience.
On their Facebook page, they mentioned that they’d be collecting missed blue and grey bins this week. They’ve even paused brown bin collections to help catch up. Residents are asked to have their grey bins ready for collection starting January 20.
Newcastle Borough Council is also in catch-up mode. They tried to collect as many bins as possible last week, but now they’re prioritizing emptying containers and clearing the streets.
For recycling, if your collection was due between January 6 and January 10, make sure to put your blue bin and bag out. They’ve got extra crews on the job this week. If you don’t need a collection, just wait until your normal day next week.
As for household rubbish, the same rules apply. If your collection was missed last week, put your bin out and allow some extra time for it to be picked up.
Food waste caddies should go out on the usual collection day, but expect a delay of a day for collection.
Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is also facing delays. They’ve suspended brown bin collections until January 20, so residents should keep their bins out while crews work to catch up.
Councillor Joe Porter has been in touch with the council to get updates for residents in Brown Edge and Endon. He’s asking everyone to keep their blue lidded general waste bins out, along with their grey recycling bins, as crews are working hard to clear the backlog.
Today, crews have been out in Endon collecting household waste bins. Cllr Porter thanked residents for their understanding during this tough weather.
Stay tuned for more updates as the councils work to get everything back on track!
