Chapel Hill: It’s been over a month since North Carolina brought in Bill Belichick as their new head coach, and he still hasn’t hired many staff members. This is making folks a bit anxious.

People are worried that Belichick might activate his $10 million buyout and head back to the NFL. While there’s no solid interest from teams like the Raiders, UNC is on edge about him leaving so soon.

So far, he’s only made a few hires. Freddie Kitchens is the offensive coordinator, and his son Steve is the defensive coordinator. There are a couple of other assistants, but that’s about it. With $10 million to spend, it feels like a slow start.

Fans are wondering why he hasn’t brought in more of his former colleagues. No Matt Patricia or Joe Judge in sight. It’s got everyone from the athletic director to the ACC Commissioner feeling a bit uneasy.

Unless an NFL team comes calling, these worries might be premature. But with the buyout still at $10 million this year, it seems unlikely he’ll jump ship just yet.

Next year, though, when the buyout drops to $1 million, things could change. Belichick seems eager to get back into the NFL, and he might have taken the UNC job because he didn’t get any solid offers for next season.

One team to keep an eye on is Tampa Bay. They’ve made some surprising moves in the past, and there’s chatter that their current coach, Todd Bowles, might not be safe. If Belichick is interested, who knows what could happen?

But there’s a catch. If he goes back to the NFL, he might have to leave Lombardi behind. It’ll be interesting to see how much he wants that all-time wins record and if he’s willing to make sacrifices for it.
