Newton Abbot, Devon, Motorcycle Accident, Traffic Delays

Newton Abbot: This morning, a crash between a car and a motorcycle caused quite the mess on the roads. The South Devon Highway was closed southbound, leading to some serious traffic jams stretching back to Teignmouth.

Police got the call around 8:15 AM about the collision near the Penn Inn roundabout. By 8:40 AM, they had to shut down the southbound lane, and it stayed closed for about an hour.

During that time, traffic was backed up in all directions. There were about four miles of delays on the Highway from Penn Inn to Sandygate, and nearly nine miles of queues on the A381 and A383 between Teignmouth and Newton Abbot.

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said they were alerted at 8:15 AM about the accident. The ambulance service was also called, and the motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital. Thankfully, her injuries aren’t life-threatening.

By 9:50 AM, the road was reopened, but it took a bit for traffic to get back to normal. If you want more details about the incident, check out our blog.
