New Orleans: President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visited families and survivors affected by the tragic New Year’s Day attack. This incident claimed 14 lives and injured many others.

They had a private meeting before Biden spoke at an interfaith prayer service at St. Louis Cathedral. He expressed his sorrow for the lives lost and stood in solidarity with the injured, including two officers he met.

Biden promised that his administration would support the French Quarter and help the community heal. He emphasized that New Orleans is a symbol of strength and resilience, especially after facing past disasters.

Upon arriving, Biden was welcomed by Mayor LaToya Cantrell and other officials, including the FBI’s special agent in charge of the investigation. The Bidens also visited Bourbon Street, where Jill laid flowers at a memorial for the victims.

During their visit, the White House announced additional federal resources to help New Orleans prepare for upcoming events like the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras. They recognized the need for extensive support for these occasions.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre mentioned that federal assistance could include various security measures to ensure safe events. This includes canine teams, cyber assessments, and tactical support.

In a recent address, Biden discussed the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, an Army veteran who was identified as the attacker. Jabbar had posted concerning videos online, expressing violent intentions.

He drove a rented truck into crowds celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street and was killed in a shootout with police shortly after the attack.
