Bible John Author Faces Setback in Identifying Notorious Killer

Jill Bavin-Mizzi’s quest to link DNA to Bible John hits a dead end as no relatives are found

Glasgow: An author named Jill Bavin-Mizzi has been on a mission to identify the infamous Bible John killer. She believes John Templeton is the man behind the murders of three women in the 1960s.

In her book, she pointed to Templeton as the possible murderer of Helen Puttock. Jill was hoping to find a living relative of Templeton to compare DNA samples with evidence found on Helen’s clothing.

Unfortunately, it turns out that Templeton, who passed away in 2015, has no surviving blood relatives in Scotland. Jill had even hired a private investigator in Edinburgh to dig into Templeton’s family tree, thinking there might still be a chance for police to reopen the case.

She expressed her frustration, saying, “The only chance of establishing if John Templeton is Bible John is through the DNA.” She’s determined to keep searching, believing that the families of the victims deserve answers.

Jill’s last hope is to find a relative in England, but she knows that tracing ancestry records there is a lot trickier. She’s reaching out to anyone who might be related to Templeton and plans to visit the UK in June to continue her research.

Last year, she even tracked down Templeton’s ex-wife, who shared a photo that looked a lot like a police artist’s impression of Bible John. The ex-wife also revealed that Templeton had been questioned by detectives shortly after Helen’s murder.

Jill’s investigation has been extensive. She previously looked into another suspect, John McInnes, who was also linked to the case. Sadly, DNA tests from McInnes’s exhumed body didn’t match the samples from the crime scenes.

She’s pieced together a lot of information, including the fact that all three victims were last seen at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. The murders remain unsolved, and Police Scotland continues to review the cases for any new leads.
