Bexleyheath: So, Stephen Baughen, a 43-year-old guy, just got six years in prison. A judge decided he was a real danger to young girls.
He was found guilty of sexual offences involving three different girls after a trial at Woolwich Crown Court last year. It was a unanimous decision by the jury.
During the trial, the prosecutor shared some pretty disturbing details. Back in August 2020, Baughen sent sexual messages to a 14-year-old girl on Instagram.
He told her she was sexy and even offered to buy her sexy underwear. Can you believe that? He also invited her out shopping, saying he’d “spoil her rotten.”
At the same time, he was messaging another 14-year-old girl, sending her sexual messages, including a photo of his erect penis. Just gross.
He got arrested but was released while they investigated. Then, in August 2023, he sent sexual messages to a 13-year-old girl.
She called him a nonce, which is pretty brave of her. Baughen denied everything, making the girls go through a crown court trial.
The prosecutor mentioned that all three girls have been seriously affected by his actions. One girl said she couldn’t sleep and felt sick about what happened.
Even after being convicted, Baughen is still in denial. He was found guilty of trying to meet a girl under 16 after grooming her and multiple counts of sexual communication with kids.
His lawyer said it’s tough for him to accept the jury’s conclusions, but come on, the facts are pretty clear.
In the end, Recorder Matthew Turner sentenced him to six years behind bars.
