Belfast: A catering company in Belfast has found itself in hot water after a customer had a serious allergic reaction. This incident led to the customer being hospitalized, which is never a good sign.
The company, Event Warrior Limited, trading as Craft Event Co, was taken to court and ended up pleading guilty to three food safety charges. They really dropped the ball on this one.
One of the charges was about serving food that wasn’t safe for people with allergies. They also failed to train their staff properly on food hygiene, especially when it comes to managing allergens. That’s a big no-no.
Another charge was about not having the right procedures in place to ensure allergen-free food. This all came to light after a customer had an anaphylactic reaction at an event in September 2023. They had to use an Epi-pen and stayed in the hospital overnight. Yikes!
In total, the company was fined £4,500 and had to pay £548 in costs, plus £1,000 in compensation to the affected individual. Ouch! That’s a hefty price to pay for not being careful.
On their website, they claim to be all about high standards and great customer service. But this incident has definitely put a dent in their reputation.
A spokesperson for the company apologized and mentioned they’ve already started implementing more training and new protocols to prevent this from happening again. Let’s hope they stick to it!
