Belfairs: Residents woke up to find deep tire tracks in the park. Quad bikes tore through the playing fields, leaving a mess. Parks teams are now working to fix it.
This incident follows complaints about antisocial behavior in Belfairs Park. Some residents reported squirrels being killed with slingshots.
Stephen Aylen, a local councillor, mentioned the damage isn’t extensive. He believes the park will be repaired soon.
He noted that while the pitch wasn’t ruined, there is still significant damage. He expressed confusion over why this happened.
This isn’t the first time quad bikes caused trouble. In December 2023, they caused £100,000 worth of damage to the golf course.
Belfairs Golf Course opened in 1926 and is considered one of the best municipal greens in Britain.
Mr. Aylen questioned why people would do such things. He finds it upsetting to see the damage.
Southend Council’s Park Team is repairing the damage. Residents are angry at the yobs for ruining the field.
In September, similar destruction occurred at Belfairs Golf Course. Witnesses saw six quad bikes riding across the greens.
Earlier this year, residents formed a group to protect wildlife after reports of squirrels being harmed.
Police are asking for evidence from anyone who witnessed these attacks.
