Beeston: A dog owner is in hot water after his XL bully bit a guy, sending him to the hospital. Stephen Clay, the owner, admitted his dog was out of control. He faced charges in Nottingham Crown Court.
Last month, he was cleared of another charge for allegedly beating his dog, Diesel, back in August. This week, the 44-year-old appeared via video link from HMP Nottingham for sentencing discussions.
His lawyer asked for a delay so Clay could be evaluated by probation services before the judge makes a decision. The judge set the next court date for March 18 and urged Clay to cooperate with the probation team.
Clay agreed, saying he would fully cooperate. Nottinghamshire Police reported that they were called to High Road in Beeston after a man was attacked by a dog on October 9. They arrested Clay the next day.
They also took Diesel into secure kennels. The victim, a 26-year-old man, suffered injuries to his leg and hand but is expected to recover. At his first court appearance, Clay showed up with a dog muzzle and asked to keep pets while on bail, claiming he loved animals.
He even mentioned trying to save a pigeon recently. Prosecutors said Diesel lunged at the victim, causing serious injuries that required surgery. Clay is now waiting for his sentencing on March 18.
