Mumbai: A protest march took place in Dharashiv on Saturday, calling for justice for Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, who was murdered in Masajog village. This incident has stirred up political tensions, especially between the Maratha and OBC communities.
People are demanding the resignation of Minister Dhananjay Munde, who is linked to the main suspect, Valmiki Karad. Recently, OBC leader Lakshman Hake backed Munde, which didn’t sit well with many. During the protest, BJP MLA Suresh Dhas didn’t hold back, criticizing Hake and another OBC leader, Prakash Shendge, for their support of Munde.
Dhas told Hake to think for himself instead of following orders. He also pointed out that if the entire OBC community was behind Munde, then where were they during the protest? He emphasized that people from all backgrounds were there, united in their demand for justice.
He reminded everyone that Maharashtra is a land of unity, referencing leaders like Phule, Shahu, and Ambedkar. Dhas urged the crowd to stop divisive tactics and insisted that they would not engage with those who spread misinformation.
The family of Santosh Deshmukh joined the protest, along with other notable figures like MLA Jitendra Awhad and Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil. Earlier protests were also held in Beed and Parbhani.
While Munde was criticized indirectly, there were strong calls to “send the big fish to jail.” However, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated that no resignations would happen without solid proof, indicating that Munde will stay in his position for now.
