Chicago: So, it looks like the Bears are eyeing Marcus Freeman, the head coach at Notre Dame. He’s got the Irish on a roll this season, sitting at 14-1 and gearing up for the national championship against Ohio State on January 20.

According to the NFL Network, the Bears have been doing their homework on Freeman for a while now. It seems they see him as a serious candidate for their coaching vacancy.

If Freeman is up for it, any chat with the Bears will likely happen after the championship game. They’re probably okay with waiting since a lot of other candidates they’ve talked to are still in the NFL playoffs.

Freeman, who just turned 39, has been making waves in his third season at Notre Dame. He took over from Brian Kelly and has steadily improved the team’s performance each year. They went from 9-4 last season to a strong 14-1 this year.

Before stepping up as head coach, Freeman was the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame and had a stint at Cincinnati. The Bears, on the other hand, are in a bit of a pickle after firing Matt Eberflus midseason. They ended the year with a rough 1-4 record under interim coach Thomas Brown.
