London: So, Ugo Monye is in a bit of a pickle. The former England rugby player is facing bankruptcy, and it’s not looking good. His company, Show Me The Monye Ltd, got hit with a winding-up order because he owes nearly £200,000 in taxes and National Insurance. Ouch!
Things took a turn for the worse when HMRC filed a bankruptcy petition against him in December. They want to seize his assets to cover his debts. That’s a tough spot to be in, especially for someone who’s been a big name in rugby.
Ugo, who played for England and even toured with the British & Irish Lions, has been a familiar face on TV as a rugby pundit. But it seems like he’s had a rough few years. He was on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, but it was a bittersweet experience. His dad passed away just before the show started, and he had to attend the funeral via Zoom. That’s heartbreaking.
On top of that, he and his wife Lucy split up, which he attributed to the “Covid curse.” Then, he took on a captain role on Question of Sport, but that didn’t go over well with fans, and the show got canceled last December.
To add to his troubles, Ugo faced racial abuse after a game in Exeter. He spoke out about it on social media, calling the incident disgraceful. A man has denied the charges, and a trial is set for March. It’s been a whirlwind for Ugo, and we can only hope he finds a way through this tough time.
