BBC Host Stunned by Dramatic Changes to Property on Escape to the Country
Nicki Chapman was amazed by the transformation of a couple’s home in Derbyshire during a recent episode of Escape to the Country

Derbyshire: So, you won’t believe what happened on the latest episode of Escape to the Country! Nicki Chapman was totally taken aback when she visited Darcie and Ian’s home after eight years.
These two first appeared on the show back in 2015, wanting to leave their place in Cambridgeshire for their favorite getaway in the Peak District. They ended up buying the very first house they saw in Derbyshire, which is pretty wild!
Fast forward to 2023, and Nicki was super excited to see all the changes they made. Right off the bat, the outside looked different with sleek black window panels and a door instead of the old light blue ones. But it was the kitchen that really blew her away.
When she walked in, she was like, “I don’t recognize this at all!” Darcie laughed and said she sometimes feels the same way. Nicki was amazed at how big the kitchen looked and asked if there used to be a wall there. Turns out, they knocked out a small fourth bedroom to open up the space!
Nicki couldn’t stop raving about the transformation. She even joked that she’d ask them for advice next time she does a kitchen makeover. They really did a fantastic job!
But it wasn’t just the kitchen that got a makeover. Nicki also loved what they did with the living area. Ian mentioned they’ve put in a lot of work over the years. They rearranged the furniture to make the room feel bigger and built storage cabinets to cut down on clutter.
Darcie shared how much they love their new community, saying they’ve been involved in local events like Hogfest. It sounds like they’ve really settled in and made the place their own!
