Laindon: For the past 18 months, Charlotte Morris and her kids have been dealing with a serious mould problem in their home. It’s been tough, as two of the four bedrooms are basically unusable.

Charlotte, who’s 35, has been trying to get Basildon Council to step in and fix things. She’s had enough of the delays and the back-and-forth. It’s been a real struggle for her and her family.

She believes the mould is coming from a roof leak that hasn’t been fixed, and it’s spreading to other rooms. It’s not just about losing furniture; she’s worried about her kids’ health too.

“I haven’t slept in my own bedroom for a year,” she said. “I’m scared for my children’s health. My daughter keeps getting sick, and I’m always at the doctor’s.”

Charlotte has had council workers come to check the damage, but nothing seems to get done. “They come to look, but fixing it is another story. Every time they schedule a repair, it gets cancelled,” she explained.

Now, she’s asking the council to move her family to a new place. “I can’t keep living like this. The ceiling is bowed, and the house smells awful. It feels like I’m squatting in my own home,” she added.

A spokesperson for Basildon Council said they’re working with Charlotte to get the repairs done and will set up appointments for the necessary work.

They also mentioned that if tenants need to move, they should fill out an online housing transfer form.
