Basildon: Residents at Charleston Court are facing a new service charge. They already pay £1,800 a year for repairs and maintenance. Now, they must pay an extra £90. This comes with a potential £30 late fee from Gateway Property Management.

Sally Bailey, a tenant, feels the charge is unfair. She says it’s for a “historic communal electrical issue.” Sally claims the communication about this fee has been poor. Many residents feel stressed and threatened by this sudden demand.

Sally, 37, shared her frustration. She mentioned a recent power cut that lasted three hours. Now, they’re being asked to pay for a new part on top of their regular fees. She feels nothing gets done despite the high costs.

She added, “I’ve had to ask my parents for money. I don’t want to do that.” Sally is angry about the situation and wants others to stand up against it. She believes residents deserve better communication and support.

Gateway Property Management explained they need to issue these invoices for future maintenance. They regret the situation and offered to let residents spread the cost over monthly payments. They understand that unexpected costs can be tough to manage.
