York: Bar Lane is closed at the junction near Micklegate Bar for some water supply work this week. It’s right by a building site where they’re putting up a new aparthotel with a bar and restaurant.
This project is replacing some old commercial units that used to be a van hire place and a restaurant. Back in 2021, Supercity Aparthotels made a deal with North Star to take over the site.
Before they started tearing things down, the old Minster Vans property was a cool pop-up space for artists and crafters. It was a neat way for local groups to show off their work.
They got the green light for this redevelopment in 2020, and it’s expected to create about 45 new jobs. Supercity has been expanding, now running six aparthotels in places like London and Manchester.
The new building is designed to fit in with the Georgian vibe of Micklegate, and it’ll have a bar and restaurant too. Supercity is all about stylish serviced apartments, with comfy living spaces and handy amenities like high-speed Wi-Fi and Nespresso machines.
While the roadworks are happening, there will be signs up to guide drivers on alternative routes through Nunnery Lane, Bishopgate Street, and Skeldergate.
