Cork: This Bank Holiday Monday, be careful on the roads. Gardai are out in force with checkpoints across Munster. They want to keep everyone safe.

Road fatalities are rising in Ireland. Gardai are stepping up their efforts to reduce speeding, a major cause of accidents.

One driver learned this the hard way. His Honda Civic, with a flashy ‘Batwing’ spoiler, was stopped for speeding. He was caught going 157km/h in a 100km/h zone in Mallow.

Gardai shared a photo of the blue Honda on social media. They warned the driver he will face court soon. They reminded everyone to slow down and drive safely.

They are also using a ‘Stealth Truck’ to catch distracted drivers. This unmarked truck lets them see into vehicles from above.

Last week, they caught 54 drivers using their phones while driving. One woman was even using two phones at once!

The truck targets drivers on the M8, M25, and in Cork city. Gardai emphasize that phones are a major distraction.

Using a phone makes you four times more likely to crash. Texting increases that risk to 23 times. It’s hard to focus on driving when you’re busy with your phone.

With bad driving conditions expected tonight, stay safe. Keep your phone out of reach, follow speed limits, and drive carefully.
